The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old man, Isiyaku Usman, over the alleged defilement of a seven-year-old girl in Darazo Local Government Area of the state.
The suspect was also accused of stealing two mobile phones belonging to the minor during the incident.
The Punch reported that the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday.
According to Habib, the incident occurred on September 6, 2026, after the girl’s 37-year-old father, a resident of Kari village in Darazo, reported the matter to the police.
The PPRO said the suspect allegedly lured the girl into an uncompleted building, where he reportedly dispossessed her of the phones before sexually assaulting her.
He stated, “On the same date at about 0800hrs, the victim was on her way to a neighbouring house with two Android phones of the same make, Techno A31, when one Isiyaku Usman ‘m’, 20 years old, of the same address, lured her into a nearby uncompleted building, robbed her of the phones and forcefully had sexual intercourse with her.”
Habib said detectives moved swiftly after receiving the complaint and arrested Usman with the stolen phones in his possession.
He added that the victim and the suspect were taken to Darazo General Hospital for medical examination, while the police also obtained their statements.
According to the police spokesperson, the suspect confessed to the offences and remains in custody as investigations continue.
The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the alleged act and ordered that the case be transferred to the Gender Laboratory of the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation.
Habib said the suspect would be arraigned after the investigation is concluded.
The commissioner reaffirmed the command’s zero tolerance for sexual and gender-based violence and urged parents and guardians to pay close attention to the safety and movements of their children.
He assured residents that the police would pursue the matter to ensure justice is served.
