The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with the abduction of a tipper driver, identified as Tobi Abdulmalik Oluwatuyi, who was kidnapped on Friday along the Akure-Owo Expressway in Ilu-Abo, Akure North Local Government Area of the state.

Confirming the incident on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olushola Ayanlade, said security operatives swung into action immediately after the report was received, leading to the arrest of one suspect.

“Yes, it is true that a tipper driver was kidnapped yesterday while his motor boy managed to escape,” Ayanlade said. “We made an arrest that same day, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects.”

Also confirming the development, the Commander of the Ondo State Security Network Agency (Amotekun Corps), Mr. Adetunji Adeleye, said the corps had launched a search operation to rescue the victim.

“We have begun intensive bush combing and blocked the routes leading to Ise in Ekiti State to prevent the kidnappers from escaping,” Adeleye stated. “We are determined to ensure the safe release of the victim.”

According to the owner of the truck, Mr. Monday Ayesoro, the abduction occurred around 6 a.m. when the vehicle developed a fault on the road.

“The driver was trying to fix the truck when some armed men suddenly came out of the bush and whisked him away,” Ayesoro explained.

“Fortunately, his motor boy escaped and raised the alarm, which attracted residents to the scene.”
