Police in Kwara State have rescued a 26-year-old woman who was abducted by gunmen in Ifelodun Local Government Area and arrested a suspected accomplice linked to the kidnapping.
The victim, Shekinat Mukaila, was kidnapped on July 15 after armed men attacked Wande Community in Ora Kingdom. During the attack, her father, the Baale of the community, was shot while trying to prevent the abduction.
Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, who disclosed the development in Ilorin, said the command launched an intelligence-led operation immediately after receiving the distress report.
According to Adekimi, “Operatives were swiftly deployed to the community where the area was secured, critical exhibits were recovered, and a comprehensive intelligence-led investigation was launched.”
He said the investigation led to the arrest of Aliyu Mohammed, who is suspected of assisting the kidnappers, while detectives also traced and analysed the communication channels used by the criminal gang during ransom negotiations.
The commissioner explained that intelligence gathered during the investigation enabled security operatives to intensify targeted operations, leading to the successful rescue of the victim without injuries.
“These coordinated intelligence-driven efforts culminated in the successful rescue of the kidnapped victim unhurt, while sustained operations are ongoing to apprehend the remaining fleeing members of the syndicate,” Adekimi said.
He added that the injured traditional ruler was taken to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital for treatment and has since been discharged.
The police commissioner reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to strengthen the fight against crime across the state.
