Police arrest robbery, drug suspects in Niger

The Niger State Police Command has apprehended several individuals suspected of engaging in robbery, drug peddling, and other criminal activities following a series of raids across the state.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, said the arrests were part of ongoing efforts to curb crime and maintain law and order in the state.

According to Abiodun, the operations were conducted between October 21 and 23, 2025, in different locations, including Kontagora, Minna, and Bida.

He explained that officers attached to the ‘A’ Division in Kontagora carried out a sting operation in the Tudun-Wada area, where three suspects — 22-year-old Abdullahi Abdullahi, 19-year-old Fahad Abubakar, and 28-year-old Nasiru Aliyu — were arrested.

“The suspects were found with a large quantity of suspected cannabis, two knives, and a pair of military trousers,” Abiodun disclosed. “Investigation is ongoing to determine the source of the illicit substances and whether they belong to a wider criminal network.”

In a separate operation, the police raided several hideouts in Minna, including Angwan-Sarki, Kuta Road, Sabon-Gari, Ogbomosho area, Baida, and parts of Makera, leading to the arrest of seven additional suspects.

Those arrested were identified as Hamza Dauda (28), Hussain Sanda (25), Sani Hassan (22), Danlami Garba (25), Saidu Hassan (19), Musa Umar (21), and Hassan Usman (25).

“They were caught with substances suspected to be cannabis, along with shisha pots, pipes, and other illicit items,” the police spokesperson said, adding that all seven suspects were charged to court on October 24, 2025.

Similarly, two suspected robbers — 25-year-old Aliyu Salihu and 22-year-old Jibrin Ndako, both residents of Barkin-Saleh, Minna — were arrested at Tungan-Shanu in Maje while attempting to flee after a robbery in Bida.

“On October 22, 2025, at about 6:45 p.m., operatives attached to Maje Division intercepted the suspects with a white unregistered motorcycle,” Abiodun explained. “Investigations revealed that they had earlier robbed a student in Bida of his motorcycle, four phones, and ₦40,000 at about 2:30 a.m.”

He added that the suspects confessed to the crime and were attempting to escape to Kogi State before they were apprehended. Items recovered from them included the stolen motorcycle, four handsets, two ATM cards, and ₦7,000 remaining from the stolen cash.

Abiodun noted that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Minna for further investigation.
