The Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate and former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, has joined Catholics worldwide in honouring Pope Leo XIV on his 70th birthday.
In a goodwill message posted on his official X handle on Sunday, Obi hailed the Pope’s life as a remarkable example of “faith, humility, and courage,” stressing that the Pontiff’s journey remains a profound witness to God’s grace.
Highlighting the coincidence of the birthday with the Feast of the Triumph of the Cross, Obi underlined its symbolism of victory, redemption, and enduring hope.
He connected the significance of the feast to the Pope’s witness, remarking that his life shows how “faith, perseverance, and fidelity to Christ can transform trials into triumphs.”
The former governor further prayed that God would continue to endow the Holy Father with strength, wisdom, and fulfilment as he shepherds the Catholic Church in unity with the bishops.
He also wished the Pope peace, joy, and good health in the years to come.
