Ogogo’s daughters seek help as actor battles stage-four cancer

The daughters of veteran Yoruba actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, have appealed for urgent medical assistance for their father, who they said is battling stage-four cancer.

The actor’s daughters, Lima and Kira Taiwo, made separate emotional appeals on Instagram on Monday, asking Nigerians, medical professionals and healthcare facilities with the capacity to treat cancer to assist the family.

Lima, who struggled to contain her emotions while speaking in a video, said her father’s condition had worsened and that hospitals were no longer willing to continue treating him.

She, however, clarified that the family was not seeking financial donations but medical intervention that could give the actor another chance.

«“My daddy has cancer and it’s really, really bad. And the hospitals are refusing to treat him. At least, please, give this man a chance,” she pleaded.»

According to her, the family only became aware of the seriousness of Hassan’s condition about three weeks ago, noting that his physical appearance had initially given little indication of the severity of his illness.

«“You see him, you can’t even know that something is wrong that bad. It’s just starting to show. We didn’t even know until like three weeks ago,” she said.»

Lima appealed to anyone with links to doctors, hospitals or other healthcare providers who could take on the actor’s case to contact the family.

«“If you know somebody that knows somebody that will be willing to treat him, anything, we’re willing to try anything. We’re not here to ask for money,” she said.»

She also acknowledged the assistance provided by a family member during the difficult period.

«“My big uncle has helped a lot. He has been of great help. Nobody even knew that he would show up for us this way,” Lima said.»

In a separate video, Kira disclosed that her father had been diagnosed with stage-four cancer and said a hospital had informed the family that further chemotherapy was not possible.

«“He has cancer and is in stage four. The hospital is saying that they cannot treat him again, like they can’t give him chemo again,” she said.»

Kira appealed to medical professionals and facilities capable of providing cancer treatment, including chemotherapy, to intervene.

She also expressed appreciation to Senator Yayi, whom she said had been assisting the family financially with the actor’s medical expenses.

“He has been the one helping us. He has been the one footing the bills,” she said.

The actress’ daughter reiterated that the family’s appeal was for treatment rather than money.

“If you can treat my daddy, if you can start chemo for him, whether it’s medical or herbs, please, I’m begging you. Anybody that you know that can treat cancer, please help us,” she pleaded.

She asked anyone with information about a medical professional or facility capable of treating her father to contact the family through social media.

“If you can treat my daddy, please send me a DM. I’ll be checking my phone. Please, I don’t want my daddy to die,” Kira said.

She became emotional while describing her father’s condition, saying she had never seen him experience such severe pain.

“I’ve never seen my daddy in that kind of pain before,” she said, adding that her father had expressed fears about dying.

Hassan, 66, is a veteran actor in the Nigerian film industry whose career spans more than four decades. He has featured in hundreds of films and remains one of the prominent figures in Yoruba-language cinema.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the actor’s management nor his family had publicly disclosed details of the specific type of cancer or the hospital where he was receiving treatment.
