Nine political parties obtain INEC access codes for 2027 candidate nominations

Nine registered political parties have obtained access codes from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to upload the particulars of their candidates for the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections.

The disclosure was made on Tuesday by INEC National Commissioner for Voter Education and Publicity, Mohammed Haruna, in Abuja.

Haruna said that, as of the close of business on Monday, nine parties had completed the process of collecting the codes required to access the commission’s online candidate nomination portal.

The parties are Accord (A), Action Alliance (AA), African Democratic Congress (ADC), All Progressives Congress, Labour Party, National Democratic Congress, National Democratic Party, Peoples Redemption Party, and the Social Democratic Party.

According to Haruna, it is the responsibility of each political party to request and collect the access code from the commission, rather than expecting INEC to deliver it to party offices.

“As of the close of work on Monday, nine political parties have collected the access code for the national elections,” Haruna said.

He explained that anyone collecting the code on behalf of a political party must present a letter of authorisation issued by the party’s leadership.

Haruna also urged political parties to comply fully with the commission’s candidate nomination guidelines, noting that party officials had already received training on the nomination process.

He cautioned parties against delaying the submission of their candidates’ details until the final day.

“INEC has been generous by extending the deadline from the close of work to midnight of the deadline date. If any political party decides to wait until the deadline, INEC cannot be blamed for that,” he said.

Under INEC’s timetable for the 2027 general elections, political parties are expected to submit nomination forms for presidential and National Assembly candidates between June 27 and July 11 through the commission’s online nomination portal.

The commission has also scheduled the submission of nomination forms for governorship and State House of Assembly elections from July 18 to August 8.
