NDC zones 2027 presidential ticket to South

The Nigeria Democratic Congress has officially zoned its presidential ticket for the 2027 general election to Southern Nigeria, with the candidate expected to serve a single four-year term if elected.

The decision was reached during the party’s National Convention, where delegates adopted a motion proposing the zoning arrangement as part of efforts to ensure regional balance and inclusiveness within the party.

The motion was moved by a lawmaker representing Ogbaru Constituency in Anambra State at the House of Representatives, Afam Victor Ogene, and received the backing of party delegates at the convention.

According to resolutions reached at the gathering, the party also agreed that after the completion of the four-year tenure, the presidential ticket would automatically shift to Northern Nigeria.

Party stakeholders said the arrangement was designed to promote equity and internal stability ahead of the 2027 elections.

“The presidential ticket has been zoned to the South for a single four-year term, after which it will automatically return to the North,” a party source at the convention said.
