Mbappé’ fires Real Madrid to La Liga top

Real Madrid reclaimed top spot in LaLiga with a hard-fought 1–0 win over Getafe at the Estadio Coliseum, extending their dominant run against their city rivals to eight consecutive victories.

Los Blancos continued their strong start to the campaign, securing their seventh win in eight league outings as they push to reclaim the domestic crown.

However, the narrow scoreline belied their early struggles, as Getafe made life difficult for the visitors throughout the first half.

Kylian Mbappé was once again the focal point of Madrid’s attack, forcing David Soria into an early save before dragging another effort wide from distance. Rodrygo also came close from a tight angle, but it was Getafe who nearly stunned their illustrious neighbours when Alex Sancris’ volley flashed inches past the upright.

Seeking a breakthrough, Xabi Alonso turned to Vinícius Júnior after the restart to add energy and pace to Madrid’s attack.

Yet despite the change, the visitors continued to labour in front of goal. Getafe, meanwhile, threatened sporadically through Adrián Liso, who fired narrowly off target.

The turning point arrived in the final stages. Substitute Allan Nyom was shown a straight red card for striking Vinícius off the ball, and within a minute, Madrid capitalised.

Mbappé, ever the difference-maker, pounced inside the box and smashed his shot past Soria, whose touch wasn’t enough to keep it out.

Getafe’s night worsened when Alex received a second yellow for another foul on Vinícius, reducing the hosts to nine men and sealing their fate.

With the victory, Real Madrid opened up a two-point cushion at the summit and maintained their perfect record against Getafe since 2020.

The hosts, meanwhile, sit mid-table, five points above the relegation zone after nine rounds of fixtures.
