Real Betis produced an impressive attacking display to defeat Osasuna 5-2 in their La Liga Round 8 encounter at Estadio de la Cartuja in Seville on Sunday, with Isco scoring twice to inspire the hosts to victory.
Isco opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 10th minute after Rodrigo Riquelme won a spot kick.
Betis continued to dominate and doubled their advantage in the 31st minute when Abdessamad Ezzalzouli finished off a pass from Cucho Hernández to give the hosts a 2-0 lead at half-time.
The hosts extended their advantage three minutes after the restart when Osasuna striker Ante Budimir inadvertently turned the ball into his own net.
Budimir made amends moments later, however, pulling one back in the 51st minute following an assist from Rubén García.
Osasuna continued their comeback and reduced the deficit to 3-2 in the 56th minute through Raúl García de Haro, who converted Alejandro Catena’s delivery.
The visitors briefly threatened to complete the recovery, but Isco restored Betis’ two-goal cushion in the 67th minute with a left-footed finish.
Betis maintained their advantage despite Osasuna’s efforts to get back into the contest, with the visitors also losing García de Haro to injury in the 79th minute.
Substitute José Morante completed the scoring in the sixth minute of added time, sweeping home a pass from Héctor Bellerín to seal a convincing victory for Manuel Pellegrini’s side.
The result was reflected in Betis’ attacking numbers, as they registered 20 shots against Osasuna’s 11 and had seven attempts on target compared with their opponents’ five.
The hosts also enjoyed 52 per cent possession and won eight corners.
Isco was the standout performer, contributing two goals and three key passes before leaving the pitch in the 74th minute.
His performance helped Betis secure an emphatic win after withstanding Osasuna’s second-half fightback.
