Manchester United captain, Bruno Fernandes, has been crowned the Premier League Player of the Season.
The Portugal midfielder, who also picked up the Football Writers’ Association men’s Player of the Year award earlier this month, enjoyed a standout campaign for the Old Trafford side.
Fernandes matched the Premier League record for assists in a single season after providing his 20th assist in the win over Nottingham Forest last weekend.
He also contributed eight goals across 37 appearances, playing a key role in helping Manchester United secure third place and qualification for the UEFA Champions League.
In addition to his creative output, Fernandes created more chances than any other player in the league this season with 132, 43 more than Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai.
The United skipper becomes the club’s first winner of the award since defender Nemanja Vidić in 2011.
Winners are determined through a combination of public voting and a panel of football experts.
The shortlist for the award included Arsenal trio David Raya, Gabriel Magalhães and Declan Rice, Manchester City striker Erling Haaland and Antoine Semenyo, Brentford forward Igor Thiago, and Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White.
Manchester United conclude their league campaign away to Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday.
In related club news, Steve Holland, Jonny Evans, Jonathan Woodgate, Travis Binnion and Craig Mawson have all signed new two-year contracts to remain part of Michael Carrick’s coaching staff.
Carrick himself signed a permanent two-year deal on Friday after a spell as interim manager following the dismissal of Ruben Amorim in January.
