Makinde declares 2027 presidential ambition on APM platform

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election under the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement.

Makinde made the declaration on Thursday during a political rally held at Mapo Hall in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, amid ongoing political realignments involving factions of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Addressing supporters at the event, the governor formally announced his presidential ambition.

“I, Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde, Excellency, announce my candidacy for the position of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he said.

The declaration followed a political alliance between a faction of the PDP in Oyo State, led by Taminu Turaki, and the Allied Peoples Movement as part of preparations for the next election cycle.

Earlier, representatives of both parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding to solidify the partnership ahead of the 2027 polls.

Makinde and the National Chairman of the APM, Yusuf Dantalle, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective political groups.

Under the terms of the agreement, candidates aligned with the PDP faction seeking elective positions, including governorship, Senate, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly seats, are expected to contest on the platform of the APM rather than the PDP in the 2027 elections.

The development marks a significant shift in the political landscape of Oyo State and could influence broader alignments as preparations for the 2027 general elections intensify.
