Lookman dropped for Atalanta, Lecce clash

Atalanta head coach, Ivan Juric, has openly criticised Ademola Lookman, confirming that the Super Eagles forward will be sidelined for Sunday’s clash with Lecce.

Juric’s remarks underline the continuing tension between Lookman and the club following a turbulent summer.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Juric was straightforward: “Ademola will not be ready for tomorrow,” adding that the situation extends beyond mere fitness concerns.

The coach stressed that Atalanta demands “spirit, humility, passion for the shirt,” qualities he believes Lookman currently lacks.

“I have a very good relationship with Lookman, but I shouldn’t have to beg him to play,” Juric explained. “It works the other way around. We are Atalanta and he represents the city. We need what Atalanta represents: hard work, humility, these are different values.”

The 27-year-old has yet to feature in any competitive games this season and missed pre-season friendlies, prompting doubts about his dedication.

His absence comes in the wake of a chaotic summer, during which a proposed transfer to Inter fell through.

Frustrated, Lookman submitted a transfer request and released a statement criticising Atalanta before returning to the UK to train independently.

He only rejoined the squad five days ahead of the Serie A opener, leaving him behind in match preparation.
