La Liga: Araújo fires Barcelona to 1-0 win over Rayo Vallecano

FC Barcelona tightened their grip on the La Liga title race with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Rayo Vallecano, ensuring Real Madrid failed to close the gap at the top.

The breakthrough came in the 24th minute when Ronald Araújo rose highest to head home from a corner at Camp Nou, a goal that ultimately proved decisive for the hosts.

Despite Barcelona’s recent attacking form, it was their goalkeeper Joan García who stole the spotlight, producing a string of crucial saves to deny Rayo any route back into the game, particularly in the second half.

Rayo had nearly stunned the league leaders inside the opening minute, but Carlos Martín failed to convert from close range after being picked out by Pep Chavarría.

Barcelona responded with chances of their own, including a missed one-on-one by Raphinha and another opportunity created by Lamine Yamal.

Araújo’s header from João Cancelo’s delivery separated the sides, though Barcelona were far from comfortable. Raphinha came close to extending the lead on multiple occasions, but Augusto Batalla kept Rayo in contention with important stops.

After the break, Barcelona manager Hansi Flick introduced Ferran Torres for Robert Lewandowski, but the visitors grew into the contest.

Substitute Álvaro García and Unai López both tested García, who stood firm under pressure.

Late chances also fell to Alfonso Espino and Jorge de Frutos, but Barcelona’s goalkeeper remained unbeatable, preserving a narrow victory.

The result moves Barcelona seven points clear at the top, while Rayo remain just four points above the relegation zone after a spirited but ultimately fruitless performance.
