The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), together with key stakeholders in the tertiary education sector, has approved 150 as the minimum cut-off mark for university admission for the 2025 admission cycle.
The decision was taken on Monday during the 2026 annual policy meeting on admissions into tertiary institutions held in Abuja.
According to the resolution, the approved scores known as the National Minimum Tolerable UTME Scores, mean that no institution is allowed to admit candidates who score below the agreed threshold.
However, universities and other tertiary institutions still have the discretion to set higher cut-off marks depending on their admission standards.
In the previous year, universities also maintained 150 as their minimum benchmark, while polytechnics and colleges of education operated with a lower cut-off of 100.
The new benchmarks were adopted after extensive discussions and a voting process involving vice-chancellors and heads of various tertiary institutions.
