JAMB warns candidates against errors during UTME, DE profile creation

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has advised prospective candidates for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry (DE) to carefully verify their personal details before creating their profiles.

The Board gave the warning in a video released under its “JAMB Explained” series and shared on its official X handle on Wednesday.

JAMB specifically cautioned candidates against mistakes involving their names and dates of birth, noting that errors made at the profile creation stage could affect their admission process.

According to the Board, candidates should ensure that their details are accurate and correspond with the information linked to their National Identification Number (NIN).

“Before you create your JAMB profile to register for the UTME or Direct Entry, take a moment and carefully check to confirm that your name, date of birth, and any other details linked to the NIN are correct,” JAMB advised.

The Board explained that the personal information displayed during the registration process is obtained from the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).

It added that JAMB does not generate or alter those identity details, making it important for candidates to correct any discrepancies before proceeding with registration.

JAMB said, “That means if there’s any error with your name or date of birth, JAMB cannot change it after registration.”

The examination body also warned candidates against assuming that obtaining an affidavit would automatically result in the correction of erroneous records with JAMB.

It therefore urged fresh candidates to carefully examine their identity information and ensure that all details are correct before creating their profiles and commencing the UTME or DE registration process.

The Board stressed that the information provided at the profile creation stage forms the basis of candidates’ records throughout the admission process.
