The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has cautioned prospective students against accepting admission offers that are not processed through its Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS).
The board warned that admissions granted outside the approved process may not be recognised, potentially creating problems for candidates’ academic records and subsequent admission procedures.
JAMB issued the warning on Monday through its official social media platforms, urging candidates to confirm their admission status on CAPS before accepting any offer.
The board stated, “An admission offered by an institution outside the approved JAMB admission process may not be recognised as valid.”
It added that accepting such offers could jeopardise candidates’ academic plans and lead to complications with their admission records.
“Accepting such an offer could put your academic journey at risk and create complications with your admission records and related processes,” the board said.
The warning was issued in connection with an episode of JAMB’s JAMB Explained series, which discusses illegal admissions, their consequences and measures candidates can take to avoid falling victim.
Encouraging applicants to exercise caution, the board said, “Your admission journey deserves the right foundation. Verify before you accept.”
According to JAMB, CAPS was introduced to automate and streamline the admission process into Nigerian tertiary institutions. The platform enables candidates to check their admission status and respond to provisional offers, while ensuring institutions process admissions through the approved system.
The board’s 2026 admission guidelines also stipulate that admissions must be processed through JAMB and reflected on its e-Facility platform.
The guidelines state, “Any offer of admission from any tertiary institution without JAMB Admission Letter is illegal and is not recognized by the Board.”
JAMB further warned that candidates who accept offers outside CAPS do so at their own risk, noting that such admissions would neither be recognised nor condoned by the board.
Candidates have been advised to visit the board’s official website, jamb.gov.ng, to check their admission status and access the CAPS platform.
