ICPC denies viral ₦50bn bribery allegation

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission has dismissed a widely circulated video alleging a ₦50 billion bribery scandal, describing it as false and misleading.

In a statement released on Monday, ICPC spokesperson J. Okor Odey said the video making rounds on social media does not originate from the commission and has no link to any of its investigations.

According to him, elements of the video, including the images and identities mentioned, were fabricated, with some parts suspected to have been generated using artificial intelligence to deceive the public.

“The images, names, and content in the video are fabricated and, in some instances, AI-generated, designed solely to mislead unsuspecting members of the public,” Odey said.

The anti-corruption agency stressed that it is not probing any individual, Senior Advocate of Nigeria, group of lawyers, or judicial officer in connection with the alleged bribery.

“For clarity, the ICPC is not investigating any individual, SAN, group of lawyers, or judicial officer over the purported ₦50 billion bribe. No such case or transaction exists within the commission,” he added.

The commission warned those responsible for creating and sharing the video to desist, noting that it would pursue legal action against anyone found culpable.

“The ICPC will not tolerate the misuse of its name and credibility to spread disinformation under the guise of content creation. Those responsible will face serious legal consequences,” Odey stated.
