Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane has confirmed that discussions over a new contract with the German champions are expected to begin soon.
The England captain, whose current deal with Bayern runs until 2027, said the negotiations had been postponed until after his post-World Cup break but would now get underway.
Speaking to reporters at Bayern’s media day in Munich on Monday, Kane said both sides were relaxed about the situation.
“I’m not sure exactly when, but they’ll start this week or next week,” Kane said of the extension talks.
“We’re calm, they’re calm with the situation. Obviously now’s the time to start talking, because with only a year left it’s important.
“But both sides are relaxed and I’m pretty sure there’ll be talks this week or next week.”
Kane joined Bayern from Tottenham Hotspur in 2023 on a four-year contract and has since established himself as one of the club’s most prolific players.
The 33-year-old has scored 146 goals in 147 appearances across all competitions, helping Bayern win two Bundesliga titles and the German Cup.
He has also guided the club to the Champions League semi-finals twice in his three seasons.
Bayern have consistently expressed their desire to keep Kane beyond his current contract, with the club describing him as their “best transfer ever” at the end of last season.
German media reports suggest a potential new agreement could keep Kane at the Allianz Arena until at least 2029.
Kane’s impressive form has also strengthened his case for the 2026 Ballon d’Or. German football legend Lothar Matthaeus recently backed the striker for the prestigious award after a season in which Kane scored 61 goals in 51 matches.
“(Kane) delivered outstanding performances and, in my opinion, didn’t have a single weak spell,” Matthaeus wrote in a column for Sky Germany.
Bayern will begin their new campaign against Borussia Dortmund in the season-opening Supercup on Saturday.
