Glazer family reportedly considers Man Utd sale

Some members of the Glazer family, long-time owners of Manchester United, are reportedly weighing whether to sell part or all of their stake in the club, according to financial news outlet Bloomberg.

Bloomberg reports that discussions are ongoing within the family’s ownership group, with some shareholders exploring potential divestment options while others remain opposed to a sale.

The outlet adds that the talks are not unified, with the Glazer siblings said to be divided over the future of their investment.

The report further suggests that initial conversations focused on partial stake sales by individual family members, but those involved are now attempting to persuade others to consider a broader exit from Old Trafford ownership.

This is not the first time the Glazer family has weighed changes to their position at United. In 2023, co-chairmen Joel and Avram Glazer explored the possibility of consolidating control by buying out their siblings’ shares, although that plan ultimately did not materialise.

A year later, the club brought in British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who initially acquired a minority stake of 27.7 per cent before increasing it to 28.94 per cent through additional investment.

As part of the agreement, he took charge of football operations at the club.

Since then, the Glazers have remained majority shareholders, with Joel and Avram continuing as executive co-chairmen while their siblings, Kevin, Bryan, Darcie Glazer Kassewitz and Edward Glazer, sit on the board.

Public opposition to the family’s ownership has persisted for years, with fan protests regularly directed at both the Glazers and Ratcliffe in recent seasons.

The latest developments come at a time when Manchester United are also advancing plans for a new 100,000-capacity stadium, projected to cost more than £2 billion.

The club has already ruled out taxpayer funding for the project, insisting it will be privately financed after earlier suggestions of public contribution were dismissed.

When contacted previously, a club spokesperson indicated that discussions with potential investors and stakeholders remain ongoing as part of broader stadium financing plans.
