FRSC deploys 1,889 personnel for Eid-el-Kabir special patrol in Kano

The Kano State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps has deployed 1,889 personnel across the state as part of efforts to ensure road safety during the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.

The command said the week-long special patrol operation, scheduled to run from May 25 to May 31, is aimed at reducing road crashes, traffic congestion, and other emergencies often associated with increased movement during festive periods.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Sector Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Labaran, said the deployment includes regular officers and special marshals strategically positioned across major roads in the state.

Labaran stated, “The deployment of over 1,889 personnel comprising regular and special marshals across the state will ensure safer roads, smooth traffic flow, and prompt emergency response services.”

He explained that the operation forms part of the corps’ routine festive season interventions designed to manage increased vehicular movement and improve highway safety.

The Kano State Sector Commander, Idris Lawal, said the exercise was intended to minimise fatalities and maintain order on major routes during the Sallah celebrations.

According to Lawal, the command has mobilised adequate personnel and logistics to strengthen monitoring and enforcement at identified flashpoints across the state.

“The operation is aimed at reducing road traffic crashes, fatalities, traffic congestion, and other highway emergencies during the Sallah celebrations,” he said.

The FRSC disclosed that 24 patrol vehicles, four ambulances, one heavy-duty tow truck, two operational motorcycles, radar guns, breathalysers, and other traffic management equipment have been deployed to strategic locations for quick response.

Lawal also directed unit commanders and station officers across the 44 local government areas to sustain intensive visibility patrols and maintain full operational presence throughout the period.

The special patrol, according to the command, will target traffic violations such as speeding, dangerous driving, wrongful overtaking, overloading, lane indiscipline, use of mobile phones while driving, operation of defective vehicles, expired tyres, and passenger manifest violations.

To enhance compliance with traffic laws, mobile courts will remain operational across the state for speedy prosecution of offenders, while emergency rescue teams have been placed on standby for immediate response to distress situations.

The command added that patrols would operate round the clock, including night rescue operations along major highways and critical corridors.

The FRSC urged motorists and road users to obey traffic regulations, avoid reckless driving, and cooperate with officers deployed on highways.

Labaran said, “Members of the public are encouraged to make use of the FRSC toll-free emergency number 122 to report crashes, road obstructions, or traffic-related emergencies for immediate assistance.”
The command further wished Muslim faithful in Kano a peaceful and accident-free Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
