Five people sustained injuries on Sunday after a multiple-vehicle crash at the Toll Gate axis of the Lagos–Abeokuta Expressway in Ogun State, involving a truck, six cars, and two tricycles.
The accident, which occurred at about 11:35 a.m., was confirmed on Monday by the Public Relations Officer of the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi.
According to TRACE, 11 people—comprising eight men and three women—were involved in the collision. Five victims, including three women and two men, suffered varying degrees of injuries, while others escaped unhurt.
Akinbiyi explained that emergency responders evacuated the injured victims for treatment, noting that some were taken to the General Hospital, Ota, while others were moved to private facilities by relatives.
He said a combination of excessive speeding and brake failure caused the crash.
In his words, “The truck, with registration number TRN 71 XB, reportedly suffered brake failure, causing the driver to lose control and ram into other vehicles.”
He added that all affected vehicles had been removed from the road to restore normal traffic flow along the busy corridor.
Authorities urged motorists to maintain safe speeds and ensure their vehicles are in good condition before embarking on journeys, especially along high-traffic highways.
