Three persons, including a minor, have lost their lives in a road crash involving a truck and a minibus along the Abeokuta–Sagamu Expressway in Ogun State.
The accident, which occurred on Saturday evening at the Daywaterman axis near Onipepeye, reportedly involved an unregistered truck owned by the state Ministry of Environment and a campaign-branded Toyota minibus.
Confirming the incident on Sunday, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Babatunde Akinbiyi, said preliminary findings pointed to reckless driving by the truck driver.
“A fatal crash occurred at Daywaterman, inbound Abeokuta, on Saturday evening,” Akinbiyi said. “It involved a Dongfeng truck without a registration number and a Toyota minibus also not registered.”
He explained that eyewitnesses alleged that the truck was being driven dangerously before it rammed into the minibus from behind.
“According to accounts from the scene, wrongful and dangerous driving on the part of the truck driver led to the collision,” he added.
Akinbiyi disclosed that five persons were involved in the accident, with three confirmed dead at the scene.
“Out of the five casualties, three — including a minor and two adult males — lost their lives, while two female passengers sustained injuries,” he said.
He further noted that emergency responders, including officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps and the Ogun State Ambulance Service, were alerted to the situation.
“The injured victims had already been taken away by their relatives before officials arrived, while the deceased were evacuated to Ijaye General Hospital by FRSC personnel,” Akinbiyi said.
