Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Lamurde Local Government Area following a series of violent disturbances in the region.
The announcement was made on Saturday through a statement issued by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou, in the state capital, Yola.
According to the statement, the decision to implement the curfew was necessitated by escalating attacks and disruptions to public peace in several communities within the LGA.
“The government finds the recent unrest unacceptable and has mandated security operatives to enforce the curfew without exception,” Wonosikou said. “This measure takes immediate effect and will remain in force until the situation normalizes.”
He further warned that any individuals or groups caught violating the directive would face the full weight of the law.
Wonosikou also urged residents to support ongoing security efforts by avoiding the spread of false information and cooperating fully with law enforcement.
“Peace and order must be restored. Government will not fold its arms while lives and property are endangered. We remain committed to safeguarding every citizen,” he added.
Residents of Lamurde were advised to remain indoors and promptly report any suspicious activity to relevant authorities to aid in maintaining law and order.
The state government has reiterated its resolve to ensure the protection of lives and properties across all parts of Adamawa.
