The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a suspect, identified as Abubakar Musa, over the alleged killing of a 30-year-old resident of Jambutu Ward in Yola North Local Government Area, Nathaniel Yusuf.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, saying the arrest followed a complaint lodged at the Kofare Divisional Police Headquarters by the deceased’s sister, Grace Yusuf.
Nguroje said the complainant reported that her brother had been assaulted by the suspect, prompting officers to respond immediately.
“Police operatives swiftly responded to the distress call, visited the scene, rescued the victim and rushed him to the Specialist Hospital, Jimeta, for emergency medical treatment. The suspect was arrested at the scene,” he said.
According to the police, preliminary investigations revealed that the victim sustained severe injuries, including fractures to both legs, his right hand and head, after he was allegedly attacked with a stick.
“Despite efforts by medical personnel to save his life, the victim was confirmed dead while receiving treatment at the hospital,” Nguroje added.
The spokesperson said the Commissioner of Police in Adamawa State, Kabiru Hassan, had directed the State Criminal Investigation Department in Yola to take over the case to ensure a comprehensive investigation and prosecution of the suspect.
“The deceased’s body has been deposited at the medical facility for an autopsy, while investigation into the incident is ongoing,” he said.
The police also reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring justice and urged residents to remain law-abiding and continue providing credible information that would support ongoing investigations.
