The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to making reliable, affordable and sustainable electricity a top priority in 2026.
This assurance was conveyed in a statement released on Friday in Abuja by his Special Adviser on Strategic Communications and Media Relations, Bolaji Tunji, following the minister’s New Year message to Nigerians and residents of Oyo State.
According to the statement, Adelabu stressed that the government’s focus remains firmly on improving electricity supply across the country.
“Looking ahead, our focus remains unshakable: to deliver reliable, accessible and sustainable electricity to power our homes, industries and dreams,” the minister said.
He explained that progress in the coming year would be driven by continuity and renewed momentum, with deliberate efforts aimed at strengthening grid stability and expanding transmission infrastructure nationwide.
The minister also disclosed that collaboration with Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) would be stepped up to enhance service delivery, while metering initiatives would be extended to reach communities across the country.
“Our Light Up Nigeria initiative remains a priority, focusing on industrial clusters and agricultural hubs to stimulate economic growth and job creation,” Adelabu said.
He added that renewable energy would play a key role in the sector’s future, with increased deployment of solar and hydropower solutions to cater to underserved and rural communities.
Reflecting on the outgoing year, Adelabu described 2025 as a period of careful planning and steady progress in the power sector, despite existing challenges. He noted that improvements were recorded in reinforcing the national grid and enhancing its overall stability.
He further attributed the reduction in frequent grid collapses to the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI), popularly known as the Siemens deal.
“As Phase One of the PPI continues, we assure Nigerians of a strengthened grid that will make disturbances a thing of the past,” he said.
The minister expressed appreciation to Nigerians for their patience and resilience, emphasizing that public support remains essential to achieving a stable and efficient power sector.
“The journey ahead requires a united front,” Adelabu said, urging governments at all levels, communities, the private sector and citizens to work together in driving reforms.
He also called on Nigerians to safeguard power infrastructure and embrace energy-efficient practices, describing both as important contributions to national development.
While extending New Year greetings to the people of Oyo State, Adelabu expressed optimism that the year ahead would bring visible improvements in electricity supply.
“To my kinsmen and women in Oyo State, your unwavering support continues to fuel my dedication at the national level,” he said.
