Residents and businesses in parts of Abuja are expected to experience a six-hour electricity outage on Wednesday as the Transmission Company of Nigeria carries out scheduled maintenance on a major transformer.
TCN said the exercise would take place at the Central Area GIS 132/33kV Transmission Substation between 10am and 4pm.
According to the company, its engineers will conduct preventive checks on a 100MVA transformer and its associated switchgear during the maintenance period.
In a statement, TCN said, “The maintenance exercise will enable TCN engineers undertake routine preventive checks on the transformer from 10:00am to 4:00pm on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.”
The planned maintenance will affect electricity supply to customers in several parts of the Federal Capital Territory, including Wuse Zones 1 to 7, the Sheraton Hotel area, the Central Business District, Utako and Jabi, as well as adjoining communities.
The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company will be unable to supply power to the affected areas while the work is ongoing.
TCN said the intervention was necessary to support the reliability of the national transmission network and prevent avoidable faults.
The transmission company apologised to consumers for the disruption, saying, “TCN apologises for the inconvenience this planned outage will cause electricity consumers in the affected areas.”
Power supply is expected to resume after the maintenance exercise is completed.
