Leeds United were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw against Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday after failing to convert several clear chances at the Amex Stadium.
Jayden Bogle gave Leeds the lead in the 15th minute, but Luka Vuskovic equalised for Brighton after the break to earn the hosts a share of the points.
Leeds had started brightly and could have taken control of the game early on.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin came close to opening the scoring when he raced through on goal but sent his effort wide.
The visitors eventually found the breakthrough when Bart Verbruggen saved Calvert-Lewin’s close-range header, only for Ao Tanaka to keep the move alive and pull the ball across for Bogle to finish from close range.
Leeds continued to dominate the chances.
Calvert-Lewin appeared certain to double the advantage after rounding Verbruggen, but Lewis Dunk produced a crucial clearance off the line.
Moments later, Tanaka struck the crossbar from the resulting corner as Leeds continued to threaten.
Brighton improved after the interval and began putting the Leeds defence under sustained pressure.
Anton Stach saw a close-range effort saved by Verbruggen, while Tanaka had a second goal ruled out for offside.
The hosts eventually got their reward in the 71st minute when Vuskovic rose to head home De Cuyper’s corner and level the contest.
Brighton then pushed for a winner, with Promise David heading over before Pascal Gross missed a golden opportunity from close range in the closing stages.
Leeds, however, will feel they dropped two points after creating numerous opportunities.
Their reported expected-goals figure of 2.66 highlighted the extent of their missed chances.
The result leaves Daniel Farke’s side with five points from their opening three Premier League matches, while Brighton will also take confidence from their second-half comeback.
