Real Madrid forward, Kylian Mbappé scored twice to inspire his side to a 2-1 victory over Barcelona in El Clásico on Sunday, ending the Catalans’ perfect start to the La Liga season.
The French international broke the deadlock in the 41st minute after a defensive error by Barcelona allowed the ball to fall into his path, giving Madrid the lead before the interval.
Barcelona responded after the restart as captain Raphinha found the back of the net in the 61st minute to restore parity and revive hopes of extending their unbeaten run in the league.
However, Madrid regained the advantage late in the encounter when Mbappé struck in the 87th minute, converting a superb assist from substitute Eduardo Camavinga to seal all three points for the visitors.
The result dealt a blow to Barcelona’s ambition of recording a 10th consecutive league victory, while providing Madrid with a significant boost in their pursuit of the La Liga title.
Mbappé’s brace also underlined his importance to Madrid, with the forward once again proving decisive in one of Spanish football’s biggest fixtures.
