Dangote Cement Plc has commenced operations at its new cement production plant in Attingué, located about 30 kilometres from Abidjan, Ivory Coast, marking a major step in the company’s pan-African expansion drive.
According to a statement released on Sunday, the Managing Director of Dangote Cement Ivory Coast, Mr. Serge Gbotta, officially announced the launch during an event held at the Novotel Abidjan-Marcory on Wednesday.
Occupying a 50-hectare site, the facility boasts a production capacity of three million tonnes of cement per year, making it one of Dangote Group’s largest plants outside Nigeria.
The project, estimated at 100 billion CFA francs, is expected to significantly boost local production capacity and reduce the country’s dependence on imported cement.
“This strategic project embodies Aliko Dangote’s vision of building a self-sufficient Africa—one that transforms its natural resources into world-class finished products,” Gbotta said.
He added that Ivory Coast has become the 11th African nation to host a Dangote Cement production unit, bringing the group’s total installed capacity on the continent to 55 million tonnes annually.
“With this facility, we aim to contribute to the development of Ivorian infrastructure and meet the growing demand for quality construction materials, especially as the country experiences rapid urbanisation and undertakes major construction projects,” he said.
Gbotta disclosed that the plant is projected to generate over 1,000 direct and indirect jobs, providing opportunities for young people and strengthening local small and medium-scale enterprises involved in transport, construction, and supply chains.
“Our ambition is clear: to offer Ivorians cement that meets international standards, produced locally and sold at competitive prices,” he said. “The Attingué plant is not just an industrial site—it represents our confidence in the future of Ivory Coast and our commitment to sustainable development alongside local communities.”
