Carrick makes history after Man Utd beat Liverpool

Michael Carrick has become only the sixth manager and the first Englishman, to win eight of his opening nine Premier League matches, underlining the remarkable impact he has made since taking charge at Manchester United.

According to Opta Joe (via Sports Mole), Carrick’s extraordinary start has transformed United’s season, with results and performances rapidly improving under his leadership.

That momentum continued on Sunday at Old Trafford, where United claimed a dramatic 3-2 victory over Liverpool to complete their first league double over their rivals since the 2015–16 campaign.

The home side began at a blistering pace, with Matheus Cunha striking inside six minutes before Benjamin Sesko added a second shortly after to put United firmly in control.

However, Liverpool fought back after the interval, as Dominik Szoboszlai reduced the deficit and Cody Gakpo levelled the contest to set up a tense finish.

Just when momentum seemed to have swung fully in Liverpool’s favour, Kobbie Mainoo, fresh from signing a new contract earlier in the week, delivered the decisive blow, securing all three points for the Red Devils.

Carrick’s side have now beaten several of England’s biggest clubs during his short tenure, including Manchester City, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea and Liverpool, strengthening his growing case for a permanent appointment.

With Champions League qualification secured after a two-year absence, United’s revival under Carrick continues to gather pace.
