The Benue State Peoples Democratic Party Local Government congresses were disrupted by protests and violence on Saturday, amid allegations of altered lists and diverted congress materials.
The protests were sparked by discrepancies in the list from the ward congresses, which did not match the collated results, according to Daily Post.
A tense atmosphere prevailed at the party secretariat, with a heavy security presence, as youths chanted solidarity songs and party stakeholders awaited the arrival of electoral officials from Abuja.
Upon the officials’ arrival, pandemonium broke out, and a fight ensued as members demanded the list of candidates and ward congress results, which the officials couldn’t produce.
The electoral officers were chased out of the secretariat by protesting members, further fueling the confusion and chaos within the party.
