Barrios may miss Atlético, Arsenal UCL clash over injury

Atlético Madrid have been hit with a fresh injury worry after Pablo Barrios limped off during their 3-2 win over Athletic Club on Saturday night.

The midfielder was handed a recall to the starting XI by Diego Simeone, who made several changes following the defeat to Elche CF, with the Champions League semi-final first leg against Arsenal FC in mind.

However, Barrios could not complete the game, pulling up shortly before the hour mark before being replaced by Johnny Cardoso.

The club have since confirmed that the Spaniard suffered muscular discomfort in his left thigh, although he is expected to undergo further medical assessments to determine the full extent of the issue.

His early exit, coupled with his clear discomfort, has cast doubt over his availability for the upcoming double-header against Arsenal.

Simeone is also sweating on the fitness of Ademola Lookman, who remains out after sustaining a knock during the Copa del Rey final loss to Real Sociedad.

On a brighter note for Atlético, Alexander Sørloth made an emphatic return from injury, scoring twice to reach 19 goals in 49 appearances this season.

Marcos Llorente, Koke, and Antoine Griezmann also got on the scoresheet before being withdrawn in the second half, while Julián Álvarez was rested for the occasion.
