Ademola Lookman has brushed off the brief on-field clash with Victor Osimhen during Nigeria’s dominant 4-0 win over Mozambique in the 2025 AFCON Round of 16 on Monday.
The Super Eagles were clinical throughout, with Osimhen opening the scoring and Lookman providing a remarkable hat-trick of assists.
However, tempers briefly flared in the 64th minute. With Nigeria leading 3-0 and about to take a corner, Osimhen was seen confronting Lookman, seemingly frustrated that he hadn’t passed the ball to him, believing he was better positioned to score.
Moments later, the 2023 African Player of the Year signaled to the bench to be substituted and was replaced by Moses Simon.
After the final whistle, Osimhen went straight to the dressing room while his teammates lingered on the pitch.
Addressing the incident at the post-match press conference, after picking up his second Man of the Match award of the tournament, Lookman stressed that the clash was insignificant compared to the team’s victory.
“I don’t think that is really important the team won 4-0,” Lookman told journalists. “Vic is my number one guy everybody knows this. Top striker, top player so all of the rest is not important.”
The Super Eagles now face either Algeria or DR Congo in the quarter-finals on Saturday, January 5, in Marrakech.
