AFCON: Lookman hails Super Eagles’ progress after Tunisia win

Ademola Lookman has hailed Nigeria’s thrilling 3-2 victory over Tunisia as a positive sign of progress for the Super Eagles at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Atalanta forward delivered a standout performance, scoring once and registering two assists to inspire the hard-fought win.

Lookman was instrumental throughout the encounter, first providing a perfectly weighted cross for Victor Osimhen to head home the opening goal in the 44th minute.

Early in the second half, he was again the creator, swinging in a corner kick that Wilfred Ndidi converted with a well-taken header to double Nigeria’s advantage.

Lookman then capped his impressive outing by making it 3-0, collecting a return pass from Osimhen, beating his marker and calmly finishing past the goalkeeper.

Tunisia responded with two goals to set up a tense finale, but Nigeria held firm to secure all three points. Lookman’s influential display earned him the Man of the Match award, further underlining his importance to the team.

“Three points on the board, so it’s a step in the right direction,” Lookman said after the game.

“We dominated from the first half to the second half. They had a spell where they scored two goals, but overall we were very good today.”

The reigning 2024 African Player of the Year also appealed to supporters to continue standing by the team.

“Keep supporting us, we really need you. Keep being behind us and supporting us,” he added.
