Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has directed the immediate rehabilitation of the Olaiya Bridge in Osogbo as part of preparations for the inauguration of the newly completed Okefia Flyover.
The governor issued the directive during an inspection of the bridge on Sunday after expressing concern over its deteriorating condition.
According to a statement by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke instructed the Ministry of Works to urgently assess the bridge, carry out necessary repairs, clean the structure and fix all identified defects before the commissioning of the Okefia Flyover.
“The Ministry of Works should immediately act on this Olaiya Bridge. Let us clean it up. It is a state asset. We must ensure its proper maintenance. This should be done before we commission the Okefia Bridge,” Adeleke said.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to preserving existing public infrastructure while ensuring the completion of inherited projects.
“I believe government is a continuum. All inherited projects are being completed by our government, and all completed projects by previous administrations must be appropriately maintained,” he added.
Olaiya Bridge is one of Osogbo’s major transport routes, linking different parts of the state capital and serving thousands of commuters daily.
The rehabilitation order comes as the state government prepares to inaugurate the Okefia Flyover, one of its flagship road projects aimed at easing traffic congestion and improving connectivity within the capital city.
The Lameco Flyover is another key infrastructure project being executed to strengthen the state’s transportation network.
Since assuming office in November 2022, Adeleke has consistently maintained that his administration would complete viable projects inherited from previous governments while embarking on new infrastructure initiatives to boost economic activities and improve residents’ quality of life.
