Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has directed the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to investigate the disputed kingship of Koka town in Obokun Local Government Area of the state.
The Punch reported that the directive came as Adeleke commenced a vacation in Europe, where he is also expected to undergo medical examinations.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke will spend part of his vacation in the United Kingdom and other destinations to be announced later.
Explaining his decision to take the break, Adeleke said, “I am taking a short break to refresh and get further prepared to serve the good people of Osun State.”
The governor also ordered the ministry to investigate reports that another monarch had been appointed for Koka Ilase, a development that has reportedly resulted in two individuals laying claim to the traditional stool.
Rasheed said the ministry was directed to examine the circumstances surrounding the appointment and ensure that the appropriate laws and traditional processes governing chieftaincy matters were followed.
Commenting on the development, Adeleke said, “I read of another king appointed outside the one on the stool. The ministry is hereby directed to look into the dispute and issue a report to set the records straight.
“I, however, urge all stakeholders to remain peaceful as the ministry does the needful. Kingship is governed by extant laws and regulations, and the government will stand by the law and tradition of our people.”
