Werder Bremen secured a 2-0 victory over TSG Hoffenheim in their Bundesliga encounter at the Weserstadion on Saturday, with second-half goals from Niclas Füllkrug and Eren Dinkçi earning the hosts all three points.

After a goalless first half, Füllkrug broke the deadlock in the 57th minute, finishing confidently after receiving a precise pass from goalkeeper Karl Hein.

Dinkçi, who had come on in the 16th minute following an injury to Mitchell Weiser, sealed the victory eight minutes from time.

The forward connected with Marco Grüll’s delivery before firing a powerful effort into the net to make it 2-0.

Hoffenheim enjoyed more possession, controlling 59 per cent of the ball, but struggled to turn their dominance into clear-cut opportunities.

They managed 16 attempts, with only two on target, compared with Bremen’s 18 shots, four of which tested the visitors’ goalkeeper.

The hosts also dominated the second half, registering 15 attempts against Hoffenheim’s seven after the break.

Their defensive organisation ensured the visitors could not find a response despite making several substitutions.

Bremen defender Amos Pieper delivered an outstanding performance, helping his side secure a clean sheet.

He won six of his nine duels, made three clearances, two blocks and three interceptions, earning him the highest individual rating of the match.
