The General Officer Commanding, 1 Division, Nigerian Army, Maj.-Gen. Abubakar Wase, has called on soldiers to demonstrate greater dedication and professionalism in response to the Federal Government’s recent salary increase.
Wase, who also commands Sector 1 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, made the appeal on Wednesday while addressing troops of 171 Battalion in Daura, Katsina State.
According to a statement issued by the Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 1 Division, Col. Abubakar Abdullahi, the GOC said the pay rise reflected the government’s recognition of military personnel’s sacrifices and contributions to national security.
“The salary increase reflects the Federal Government’s appreciation of the sacrifices and selfless service of our military personnel in protecting the country,” he said.
He noted that the improved remuneration should motivate the troops to intensify efforts to address security challenges and protect the country, stressing that the increase also placed greater responsibilities on them.
“Greater remuneration comes with increased responsibilities. I urge you to redouble your efforts in tackling security challenges and safeguarding the nation,” Wase said.
The Army commander urged the soldiers to maintain high professional standards, remain vigilant and ensure the safety of civilians, fellow personnel and military equipment under their care.
He also reaffirmed the division’s commitment to improving the administrative and logistical support available to personnel, particularly those deployed to operational areas.
“Our commitment remains to ensuring that troops in operational areas receive the necessary support to carry out their assignments effectively,” he said.
Wase also met with members of the Nigerian Army Soldiers’ Wives Association (NASWA), acknowledging their contributions to the welfare and morale of military personnel.
He praised the women for their sacrifices and resilience, urging them to continue supporting their husbands as they carry out their military duties.
“Your endurance, sacrifices and support are invaluable to the morale and well-being of our troops. I encourage you to remain steadfast in supporting and encouraging your husbands,” Wase said.
He explained that a stable home environment was essential to the psychological well-being and operational effectiveness of soldiers, adding that the welfare of personnel and their families remained a priority.
Abdullahi said the visit was part of the GOC’s engagement with troops and their families to strengthen dedication to duty and promote personnel welfare.
