Police arrest suspect over fake ‘presidency’ number plate in Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested a man suspected of impersonating a permanent secretary in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation over an allegedly forged vehicle number plate bearing the inscription “PRESIDENCY”.

The suspect was arrested on October 20 after police intercepted a Lexus LX570 SUV with a concealed number plate in Maitama, Abuja, at about 8 pm.

The police disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh.

According to the statement, preliminary investigations showed that the number plate carried the registration number 10B218 FG, but the documents presented for its registration were allegedly forged.

The command said the suspect claimed to be the rightful owner of the number plate before further investigations allegedly revealed that he was impersonating a permanent secretary attached to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

“The vehicle and its occupant were promptly arrested for investigation and subsequent prosecution,” the statement said.

The police added that investigations were ongoing and that the suspect would be charged to court upon their conclusion.

Adeh urged residents to comply with the law, cooperate with police operations and report suspicious individuals or activities to the nearest police station.
