Bollywood actor, Tiger Shroff, escaped unhurt after gunshots were fired in Mumbai’s Juhu area on Sunday evening, October 18, 2026, leaving his driver and another individual injured.
Police have detained a suspect in connection with the incident, while Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed the police to investigate the attack swiftly and take strict action against those responsible.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Mohit Garg, the shooting occurred at about 7 p.m. as Shroff was leaving the location after work.
The actor’s driver, identified as Firdaus, sustained an injury to his left hand, while another individual, Chauhan, was also injured. Both were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Garg declined to comment on a social media post by a gang claiming responsibility for the attack.
Following the incident, Fadnavis, who also serves as Maharashtra’s Home Minister, contacted Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharti and instructed him to ensure a prompt investigation and take stringent measures against the perpetrators.
Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde also expressed concern over the shooting, warning that the government would not tolerate threats to the city’s film industry.
“Our priority is to keep Mumbai’s citizens safe. We will not spare anyone trying to threaten our film industry. It is time we respond to them in their own language. In the 1990s, Mumbai saw the gang war era. The Mumbai Police stopped it. We will not tolerate such gangs. This incident is unfortunate,” Shinde told The Hindu.
Police officers and forensic experts visited the scene on Sunday night to collect evidence and examine closed-circuit television footage as part of the investigation.
Fadnavis and Shinde also spoke with Shroff and assured him that the authorities would take strict action over the incident.
Meanwhile, opposition figures criticised the state government, raising concerns about public safety and questioning whether criminal elements were being deterred by the law.
Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit described the incident as particularly alarming, noting that it was the second shooting involving a prominent film industry figure in recent months.
“It is a matter of concern. This is the second such firing incident in recent months. Just a few months ago, there was firing at Rohit Shetty’s bungalow, which is only two lanes away from where the firing took place today. Today’s incident happened at a playground near a school frequented by children, elders, and celebrities,” Pandit told The Hindu.
He condemned the attack on behalf of the film industry, expressed solidarity with the Shroff family and called on the state government to strengthen security.
“On behalf of my industry, we condemn this act. We all stand by the Shroff family. We pray that his driver makes a safe recovery. There is a sense of fear and insecurity. Tomorrow, anybody can shoot anybody on the streets. We urge the Chief Minister to do something about it. Otherwise, the old days will return, when our industry was living under fear,” Pandit added.
The shooting has renewed concerns about the safety of Bollywood personalities in Mumbai, particularly following the reported firing incident at filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s residence earlier in the year.
Police are continuing their investigation into the Juhu incident.
