Ligue 1: Lorient shock Monaco 1-0

Lorient secured a 1-0 victory over Monaco in Ligue 1 on Sunday, with Noah Cadiou scoring the decisive goal from the penalty spot in the 61st minute.

Cadiou converted the spot-kick after Dembo Sylla was fouled, handing Lorient the lead in a contest that saw Monaco struggle to turn their possession into goals.

Monaco dominated the ball with 57.8 per cent possession and attempted 15 shots, but only four were on target as Lorient goalkeeper Yvon Mvogo produced a solid performance to preserve his side’s advantage.

Mvogo denied Denis Zakaria shortly after the goal in the 64th minute before making another important save to stop Folarin Balogun in the 79th minute.

The goalkeeper’s interventions helped Lorient withstand Monaco’s pressure and secure a clean sheet, while the hosts’ inability to find an equaliser left them empty-handed despite their attacking efforts.

The victory lifted Lorient from 10th to seventh in the league standings, while Monaco remained third.

Lorient will next travel to face Angers, while Monaco are scheduled to host German side SC Freiburg in the UEFA Conference League before taking on Lille.
