Troops kill two terrorists, recover four AK-47 rifles in Sokoto

Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation Fansan Yamma, have killed two suspected terrorists during clearance operations in Sokoto State, recovering four AK-47 rifles, eight motorcycles and other items.

The task force’s Media Information Officer, Aliyu Danja, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, noting that the operations took place on Thursday, October 15, 2026.

Danja said the troops encountered the first group of terrorists at Waria Forest, where a gun battle resulted in the death of one suspect.

He added that two AK-47 rifles and two motorcycles were recovered at the scene.

According to him, the troops subsequently engaged another group of suspected terrorists at Sarma Village, killing one and forcing others to flee.

“In a subsequent encounter at Sarma Village, troops engaged another group of terrorists in a firefight, neutralising one and forcing others to flee, abandoning their equipment,” the statement said.

Danja explained that a further search of the area led to the recovery of additional weapons, ammunition and communication equipment.

The items recovered included two more AK-47 rifles, six motorcycles, four magazines, 23 rounds of ammunition and a communication device.

The latest recoveries brought the total number of rifles seized to four and motorcycles to eight.

The military spokesman said the operation reflected the determination of the troops to weaken terrorist networks and improve security across the joint operations area.

“These successes underscore the sustained commitment of troops of Operation Fansan Yamma to dismantling terrorist networks and restoring lasting peace and security across the Joint Operations Area,” he said.

Danja also praised members of the public for their cooperation with security agencies, urging residents to remain alert and report suspicious movements to the nearest security outpost to support ongoing military operations.
