Nigeria’s registered voters hit 103 million ahead of 2027 elections

The number of registered voters in Nigeria has increased to more than 103 million ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Independent National Electoral Commission disclosed this on Monday, saying 10,772,421 new voters were registered during the three-phase Continuous Voter Registration exercise.

INEC Chairman, Joash Amupitan, disclosed the figure while delivering a keynote address at a strategic workshop for media executives organised by the Nigerian Guild of Editors in collaboration with the commission.

Amupitan said the commission had completed eight of the 14 major statutory activities outlined in its timetable for the 2027 elections.

He said preparations for the elections had now entered what he described as the “amber zone” as the election date draws closer.

According to him, the commission is intensifying preparations ahead of the 2027 polls and will continue to engage relevant stakeholders to ensure a credible electoral process.

The INEC chairman’s disclosure comes as the commission prepares to hold a world press conference on Tuesday, marking 100 days to the 2027 general elections.
