D’Tigress head coach, Rena Wakama, has announced the final 12-player squad that will represent Nigeria at the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup.
The squad, captained by Amy Okonkwo, combines experienced campaigners with a number of emerging players as Nigeria prepares for another appearance on the global stage.
The tournament will mark D’Tigress’ third participation in the FIBA Women’s World Cup, following their previous appearances in 2006 and 2018.
Ezinne Kalu and Promise Amukamara are the only members of the current squad who featured for Nigeria at the 2018 tournament.
Their participation in the 2026 edition means they will become the only Nigerian players to have appeared at two FIBA Women’s World Cups.
The African champions arrived in Berlin, Germany, on Wednesday ahead of the competition, which is scheduled to run from September 4 to 13.
Nigeria has been placed in Group B alongside Hungary, South Korea and France.
Wakama’s team will begin their campaign against South Korea at the Berlin Arena on Friday, September 4.
D’Tigress will face Hungary the following day at the Max-Schmeling-Halle before rounding off their group-stage fixtures against France at the Berlin Arena on Monday, September 7.
Nigeria will be hoping to build on its historic performance at the 2018 World Cup, where D’Tigress became the first African team to advance to the quarter-finals.
