Leeds United and Brentford played out a 1-1 draw at Elland Road on Sunday, with both sides maintaining unbeaten starts to the new Premier League season.
Kevin Schade gave Brentford the lead five minutes before half-time with a brilliant flick, but Dominic Calvert-Lewin rescued a point for Leeds late in the second half.
Brentford started brightly and created the early chances, with Igor Thiago forcing James Trafford into a save from a tight angle before Nathan Collins tested the Leeds goalkeeper with a header.
Mikkel Damsgaard also came close with a curling effort, while Leeds struggled to create clear opportunities as Brentford controlled much of the opening period.
The visitors eventually took the lead in the 40th minute.
Mamadou Sangaré started the move by finding Jaidon Anthony, whose cross was headed back into the danger area.
Sangaré then worked the ball towards Keane Lewis-Potter, whose near-post delivery was cleverly flicked into the far corner by Schade.
Leeds made two changes at the break but Brentford continued to threaten after the restart.
The Bees almost doubled their advantage when Collins met Vitaly Janelt’s corner, but Mikkel Damsgaard’s header sailed over the bar.
Leeds goalkeeper Caoimhín Kelleher, who had been largely untested, was eventually called into action and produced a good save to deny James Justin from distance.
Brentford later appealed for a penalty after Schade went down in the box following a challenge from Jayden Bogle, but referee Tony Harrington waved away the claims.
Leeds finally found their breakthrough with just over 10 minutes remaining.
Ethan Ampadu played the ball into Lukas Nmecha, who fired across the six-yard box for Calvert-Lewin to tap home and level the score.
Brentford almost responded immediately as Thiago’s header was saved by Trafford, with the Brazilian then putting the rebound into the side-netting.
Neither side could find a winner, with Anton Stach firing a stoppage-time free-kick wide.
The result leaves both Leeds and Brentford with four points from their opening two Premier League matches.
