Nigerian TikToker and streamer Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, has opened up about his four-day stay in police custody, revealing that he neither ate nor bathed for most of the period.
The 21-year-old was arrested on Friday in the Lekki area of Lagos after an encounter with police officers over a tinted vehicle that allegedly had no number plate.
After regaining his freedom, Peller shared his experience on his Snapchat account, describing the detention as one of the most difficult moments of his life.
“I am ugly now, I can’t show my face yet. Omo, I slept in cell for almost four days. It has never happened to me before in my life o,” he wrote.
According to him, other detainees recognised him in the cell and humorously nicknamed him “001” throughout his stay.
Peller also claimed he spent most of the detention without food or access to bathing facilities.
“I no chop for four good days, I no bath,” he said.
Reflecting on the incident, the content creator said the experience had changed his outlook, stressing that he now intends to avoid situations that could land him in trouble, especially with his wedding approaching.
“Nah my wedding dey my mind. Nah to dey waka jeje after wedding japa,” he added.
A video that circulated widely after his arrest showed Peller accusing the officers of harassment. In the clip, he alleged that the policemen pulled his shirt and pointed a gun at his head before taking him into custody.
He also insisted that the vehicle involved had only recently been purchased.
On Tuesday, Peller and his co-defendant, Bello Oladipo, were arraigned before a Lagos Magistrates’ Court on a three-count charge bordering on obstruction of police officers, conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace, and conspiracy to commit a felony.
The court subsequently admitted him to bail in the sum of ₦500,000, securing his release after four days in detention.
