Iran accuses US of ceasefire breach

Tensions between Iran and the United States have escalated once again, with Tehran accusing Washington of breaching a fragile ceasefire agreement in Iran’s southern coastal region of Hormozgan.

The allegation comes amid continued military activity reported on both sides in the strategic Gulf waters.

The Iranian foreign ministry on Tuesday issued a strongly worded statement, claiming that US forces carried out actions in the area over the past 48 hours that violated the truce, although it did not provide specific operational details or locations within the province.

“The US terrorist army, continuing its illegal and unjustified actions since the ceasefire … has, in the past 48 hours, committed a gross violation of the ceasefire in the Hormozgan region,” the ministry said in a statement.

Hormozgan Province, which lies along Iran’s southern coastline and borders the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, has long been a focal point of maritime and military tensions involving Western naval forces and Iran’s military and paramilitary units. The latest claims add to already heightened uncertainty in the region, where even minor incidents risk rapid escalation due to overlapping patrols and competing security operations.

On the US side, the US Central Command said its forces carried out strikes on Monday targeting missile installations and vessels it accused of preparing to deploy naval mines in the Gulf.

In contrast, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps stated that it had responded by firing at US aircraft it alleged were attempting to enter Iranian airspace, further deepening conflicting accounts of the situation.

The latest exchange of accusations underscores the fragile nature of the ceasefire arrangement and the persistent mistrust between both countries, particularly in sensitive maritime zones where military movements are closely monitored and frequently contested.
