Carter Efe rules out Portable rematch after celebrity boxing victory

Nigerian skit maker and entertainer, Carter Efe, has dismissed talks of an immediate rematch with singer Portable following his victory at a celebrity boxing event in Lagos.

Efe defeated Portable by unanimous decision at the “Chaos in the Ring 4” bout held at the Balmoral Hall, Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, marking one of the most talked-about celebrity fights in recent times.

Speaking after the match, Efe made it clear that he was not interested in stepping back into the ring anytime soon.

“I am not thinking about any rematch now. I want to go and rest first. I am very tired. Let him ask me later,” he said.

His stance mirrors Portable’s earlier decisions to deny rematches to actors Charles Okocha and Speed Darlington after defeating them in previous celebrity boxing contests.

The victory came with a major financial reward, as businessman Emeka Okonkwo fulfilled his promise of a N50 million cash prize to Efe.

“We always stand by our word. Congratulations to Carter on the win — N50 million is yours,” he announced at the event.

An elated Efe also entertained the crowd with a bold self-comparison after the fight.

“Who called me Anthony Joshua? My name is Carter Mayweather,” he said, drawing cheers from spectators.

Portable, however, rejected the outcome of the fight, alleging unfair officiating and accusing his opponent of exploiting physical advantages.

“I was robbed. Carter Efe was not professional enough. He used his height and long arms unfairly. I landed punches — why didn’t they count them?” he said in a post-fight reaction.

Despite his disappointment, the singer had personal reasons to celebrate, as he welcomed a baby boy with his wife on the same day.

Beyond the celebrity bout, the event featured several professional fights. Godday Appah emerged as the new WBO Africa cruiserweight champion after defeating Ezra Arenyeka in a split decision. Similarly, Basit Adebayo secured a WBO Africa title with a unanimous decision win over Loren Japhet.

Other bouts saw impressive performances, including a first-round knockout victory by Samuel Antwi and wins for fighters such as Rasheed Adeyemo and Raheem Animashaun.

Reacting to the success of the event, Balmoral Group Promotions CEO Ezekiel Adamu said the fight card lived up to expectations.

“We promised excitement and delivered entertaining fights. There is more to come, and we appreciate everyone who contributed to the success of this event,” he said.
