The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Enoch Adejare Adeboye, has said Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, will not be removed from her position as an ordained pastor in the church.
Adeboye made this known during the church’s monthly Holy Ghost Service, where he clarified that the First Lady was duly ordained as an Assistant Pastor over a decade ago, long before her husband, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, indicated interest in the presidency.
“She was ordained properly, and that was many years before there was any talk of her husband becoming president,” Adeboye said.
“She went through the process like every other minister, and she has not violated any of our rules.”
He stressed that the church would not yield to external pressure demanding her removal, insisting that her position remains valid within the church’s structure.
“We will not bow to pressure from any quarters,” he stated.
“What was done was done in line with our doctrines and guidelines.”
The cleric also reiterated that the RCCG is not affiliated with any political party, noting that its membership cuts across different political interests.
“In this church, you will find members of APC, PDP, ADC, APGA, and LP,” Adeboye said. “We welcome everyone, but we do not allow our altar to be used for political campaigns.”
On the 2027 presidential election, Adeboye expressed a faith-based perspective, saying the next leader of the country has already been divinely chosen.
“As far as God is concerned, the person who will lead Nigeria has already been ordained,” he said.
He also addressed concerns over insecurity affecting Christians in northern Nigeria, dismissing claims that the church has remained silent on the issue.
“We have not kept quiet,” Adeboye said. “We have been supporting victims through internally displaced persons camps and other welfare efforts. The church continues to stand with those affected.”
